Caplansky Returns to Dragon’s Den With Food Truck Update

By on March 1, 2012

Last night Zan Caplansky returned to Dragon’s Den as part of their ‘Where Are They Now’ episode.

Zane first appeared on Dragon’s Den back in November to pitch the Dragons on investing in his food truck business. Boasting over a million dollars in sales at his brick and mortar deli, Caplansky explained how taking his business mobile would make it “scalable, franchise-able and repeatable”.

At the time, the Dragon’s felt he hadn’t yet realized the full potential of his deli and that jumping into the food truck business wasn’t a smart idea.

However in last night’s episode, Caplansky was featured in a segment reserved for entrepreneurs who had been turned down by the Dragons and had gone on to prove them wrong.

In his update, Zane explains how his food truck has become a very successful part of his business. “The truck is killer successful. We’re able to do a 30%-40% profit margin out of the truck whereas in the deli we do about a 10% margin.”

In addition to singing his truck’s praises as a marketing tool, Caplansky also revealed plans to roll out a second truck.

You can catch Thunderin’ Thelma most weekdays serving up lunch from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the parking lot on Queen St. E. between Dalhousie St. and Mutual St.
