Happy New Year from Toronto Food Trucks

By on January 5, 2012

First off, just a quick note to say happy new year and to thank you for following Toronto Food Trucks. TFT was created as a side project of mine with the simple goal of providing people with a resource for finding food trucks, staying informed on Toronto’s developing food truck scene and bringing more awareness to the Toronto street food movement in general.

And so far the response has been amazing.

Since we launched in September we’ve been fortunate enough to gain 1,339 followers on Twitter, 419 fans on Facebook and tens of thousand of visitors to the site each month.

In other words, people are hungry for street food.

I predict 2012 is going to be a milestone year for Toronto street food with a bunch of new food trucks launching and some exciting new initiatives that will help bring the street food movement into the spotlight.

Looking Back at 2010

Mini Food Truck Eats

2010 was a breakout year for food trucks in this City in large part due to the tireless efforts of Suresh Doss who brought the popular Food Truck Eats events to Toronto – first in the Distillery District this summer and then with some mini events at Yonge and Gould late last year.

In a City where food trucks face draconian by-laws and swaths of red tape, these events gave people access to the trucks and often their first taste of some of the exciting food they’ve been seeing on shows like Eat. St.

We look forward to continuing to support Suresh and collaborating with him on future events this year.

I also want to acknowledge all the amazing food truck owners and operators we’ve met this past year who truly are trailblazers and inspring entrepreneurs.

Lastly, I have to mention all the cool people that we’ve met and chatted with at events, whether it’s been Food Truck Eats, Toronto Underground Market or at one of the many food pop-ups. If you see us at an event, make sure you come up and say hi.

Cheers,
