Eat St. host in Toronto to talk up local food truck scene

By on April 3, 2013

Hogtown SmokeEat St’s host and fellow Torontonian, James Cunningham stopped by Hogtown Smoke at the Sony Centre this afternoon to promote the show’s upcoming 4th season and their new Eat St Cookbook.

Cunningham feels that when it comes to food trucks in Toronto, it is very much about the quality over the quantity.

“I’m very impressed with the trucks we have in Toronto, the quality of our food trucks are really good. We may not have many, but the ones we have are top notch. It really comes down to how passionate these guys are about this business, if you talk to Rome’N Chariot or Caplansky’s, they really put their heart and soul into their food,” says Cunningham.

I asked him about his favourite truck bites throughout his visits across the GTA and he was quick to point out some of his memorable meals from our local food trucks.

“To be fair, I haven’t tried everybody yet but I love the sandwiches from the Caplansky’s truck, Hogtown’s Po Boy and the lobster rolls from Buster’s Sea Cove. It’s amazing the kind of gourmet food you can find from a truck today.”

When speaking with him, I could tell that James is a proud Canadian and would love to see food trucks in Toronto continue to thrive. “Hats off to our GTA food trucks, these guys work real hard and it really shows in the quality of their food.”

He hopes to go out to the various food truck events this summer to help promote the idea of food trucks in Toronto starting with this weekend’s Good Food & Drink Festival.

The new season of Eat St starts up again on April 8th on Food Network Canada and the show’s cookbook, Eat St. – Recipes from The Tastiest, Messiest, and Most Irresistible Food Trucks is now available in stores.
