Food Truck Events to look forward to this Spring

08142013-frankiefettuccine-02When the warm weather finally comes to Toronto after a long winter, you can always count on a few things to happen each year: Patios will start to fill up, the Blue Jays will be starting their new season, and you’ll be able to find gourmet food truck eats at almost every outdoor event make it out to.

Here’s a few food truck events you can look forward to this Spring season.

Sew Hungry 2014 in Hamilton on May 2:
The annual street party is Canada’s Largest Food Truck Festival and is back to take over Hamilton’s Ottawa Street for its 5th year. Gourmet food trucks from across Ontario will be lining the street for a lunch service (11AM-3PM) and a dinner service (4PM-8PM) on May 2nd. This year, Sew Hungry will host over 30 food trucks including favourites like Gorilla Cheese and The Dirty South, as well as new trucks like the CNE veteran, Bacon Nation. Now, why can’t Toronto have street events like these?

Whitby’s First Gourmet Food Truck Festival on May 10-11:
Trucks will be making their way to Durham for Whitby’s first food truck festival hosted by Rotary Club of Whitby. The inaugural event has invited 15 trucks to take part in their event including food truck favourites Fidel Gastros and Frankie Fettuccine. While snacking on delectable street eats, you’ll also be able to sample wines from the nearby Prince Edward County and craft beers who will also be in attendance. Visit the Rotary Whitby site for more details.

Food Truck Eats at Peller Estates on May 16-18:
For the 3rd consecutive year, Food Truck Eats is coming back to Niagara for their annual party at Peller Estates Winery. This year you’ll be able to wine and dine with 20 food trucks from across Ontario, but you’ll have to move quickly because tickets for the popular event go fast. You can buy your tickets HERE.

CraveTO at Wychwood Barns on May 30:
The Toronto street food festival is once again bringing together local gourmet cuisine, craft beer and live music; this time, they’re bringing the party to Wychwood Barns. Toronto food truck newbies, We Got Balls and CORNehCOPIA will be showing off their street fare this year alongside various other pop-up and craft beer vendors. Hungry foodies will be able to buy their food and drink samples for $5 or less. You can learn more on the CraveTO website.

With the weather only getting warmer, we are sure to see more food truck events pop-up throughout the season. I for one cannot wait to once again have the endless debate between whether I want a Bacon Explosion Sandwich or a Ossobuco Gnocchi Poutine to chase down with my beer.

If you know of any other upcoming events who will have food trucks in attendance, let me know at caspar@torontofoodtrucks.ca.
