Tdots Naansense burst onto the Toronto food truck scene earlier this spring. Owner Haines Jones has a background in event catering and has brought his knowledge and expertise to his food truck.
Get to know Tdots Naansense owner Haines Jones and discover how he ended up in the food truck scene and what item on his menu he says is a must-try.
How did you get into the food truck scene?
My father, Henry Jones has been an Executive Chef for many years – it was his passion for his work combined with my passion for the culinary arts is what inspired me to become a chef and together we opened up a catering company called H&H Sachet.
After years of catering events, we both knew that we wanted to take our food to another level and what better way than owning an Indian fusion food truck called Tdots Naansense.
Where did you learn how to make this particular cuisine?
My background is East Indian, so Indian food is a staple in our home and both my parents are excellent cooks. My father’s experience and skills combined with my view on what Indian food should taste like today created this idea of Indian fusion, diversifying flavour to appeal to different palettes.
Do you have a favourite item on your menu?
One of our top sellers is the Butter Chicken Mac n’ Cheese. We love it because it represents what Tdots Naansense stands for which is diversifying flavours.
What’s one thing the city should do to make life easier for food truck owners?
The city can definitely lower the cost of food truck permits and allow them to be at a designated spot because it’s a different experience than just dining in a restaurant.
What’s your favourite food truck?
Dirty South is my favourite at the moment – they have some tasty items on their menu.
